At first, the gallery followed the tradition of “Selbsthilfegalerie Großgörschen 35″, a self-dependent artist gallery in Berlin showing the school of Critical Realism, but soon expanded its program. Exhibiting different figurative artworks from all over Europe, the emphasis has finally been placed on paintings and sculptures. Internationally well-established artists like Volker Stelzmann and Maxim Kantor, who represented Russia at the Venice Biennale in 1997, and artists like G.L. Gabriel and Ralf Kerbach are part of the inventory of artists of Galerie Poll as well as, for example, the sculptors like Hans Scheib and Sabina Grzimek.
Since 1988 Galerie Poll represents also Russian artists, for example Igor and Svetlana Kopystiansky, Alexander Kosolapov and Maxim Kantor. In the past Galerie Poll also organised touring exhibitions in Germany and abroad. Regular participation in numerous art fairs in Basel, Cologne, Paris, Madrid and Los Angeles has enhanced the gallery’s international reputation. In May 1993, Mrs Eva Poll was awarded for the “Verdienstorden der Bundesrepublik Deutschland”, the Order of Merit of Germany, for her important role in the Berlin art scene.
In September 2009, Galerie Poll moved into its new rooms in the heritage-protected former parsonage at Garnisonkirchplatz, together with Galleria Nove, a gallery for classical modern art from Rome. Among the artist who have been represented by the gallery from the beginning on, like Peter Sorge and Maina-Miriam Munsky, artworks of well-established artists like Volker Stelzmann, Maxim Kantor, Joachim Schmettau, Sabina Grzimek and Hans Scheib are exposed in regular exhibitions. Artists from Italy, like Gabriele Mucchi as well as those from France and Spain extend the range of variety of the gallery. Since the eighties Russian artists are incorporated into the inventory of artists and their works have been exhibited in theme expositions like “Szene Moskau” (”Scene Moscow”) and “Kriegsfibel für Nachgeborene” (”Reader of War for Later-Borns”). In the future Galerie Poll will remain a forum for contemporary art and for those artists who follow their own path without undue influence of fast-moving trends.
Galerie Poll is not only an institution of art dealing and art consulting, but also supervises private and company collections as well as programs for art in architectural contexts.
